Veolia, the global leader in environmental services, participated in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024, held in Barcelona from November 5 to 7. This was an opportunity for the global champion of ecological transformation to present its innovative solutions dedicated to building the cities of the future, with a focus on water, energy, and waste management.
Veolia's participation in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2024 is part of its new strategic program, GreenUp, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, depollute the environment, and regenerate ecosystems. Through its three fundamental pillars - decarbonization, depollution, and resource regeneration - Veolia accelerates the positive transformation of cities with innovative and intelligent solutions designed for its customers.
During the event, Veolia presented a wide range of initiatives, from intelligent systems for optimizing urban water management to technologies and services for reducing the global water footprint of its customers, while presenting solutions for energy transition and environmental protection.
A €250 million fund to support European startups
The Group notably presented a new project to support the financing of European startups in the field of ecological transformation. Presented by Catherine Ricou, Veolia's Innovation Director, within the French pavilion of the Smart City Expo, this initiative aims to launch a €250 million fund, including €30 million from Veolia, to support approximately twenty companies in developing technologies in key sectors such as energy, chemistry, materials, agriculture, and mobility. Veolia will also provide its industrial expertise to accelerate the identification of innovative companies and deploy concrete solutions to depollute, decarbonize, and regenerate natural resources.
BeyondPFAS: an integrated offer to eliminate PFAS pollutants
Veolia also presented BeyondPFAS, its new integrated offer to eliminate per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water and soil. This innovative offer of solutions allows for the detection and effective treatment of these harmful substances, present in many consumer products. With BeyondPFAS, Veolia offers a comprehensive approach to protecting human health and the environment.
