Estelle Brachlianoff: "we must win the battle of desire" at the Nice Climate Summit

Estelle Brachlianoff took part in the "Agir local dans un monde global" (Acting locally in a global world) segment at the Nice Climate Summit, held on September 28 and 29 at the Palais de la Méditerranée in Nice. Organized by the Metropole de Nice Côte d'Azur, the City of Nice and La Tribune, the Nice Climate Summit is the first international event dedicated to biodiversity and climate, based on research and innovation, with cities at the forefront as agents of change.

Everyone has a role to play

"As a company, we have a collective mission to achieve, alongside public authorities, when it comes to the ecological transformation. It's to engage the participation of all stakeholders," said Estelle Brachlianoff at the very first Nice Climate Summit. For the Group's Managing Director, adherence to common objectives is the absolute priority of any ecological future. "It is imperative that all economic, political and social players converge in the same direction", she continues. The aim of this mission? To drastically reduce CO2 emissions by joining our efforts, while building a desirable and sustainable ecology.

A desirable future is a possible future

Politics is at the heart of the fight against climate change. Today, the greatest challenge for politics is to inspire people to work towards ecological transformation, and to rally citizens around a common social project that makes sense. As Estelle Brachlianoff pointed out,

"we need an international policy that establishes a long-term framework, a national policy with which we can approach investments and priorities, and, in parallel, a local and territorial policy that integrates and adapts ecological solutions within a community, an ecosystem and people's daily lives."

This is also demonstrated by the barometer of ecological transformation developed in partnership with Elabe, which highlights the fact that the world's inhabitants already associate ecological transformation with the possibility of a better world, where people will live better and in better health. "That's why we have to contribute, each in our own way, to making this vision a reality through a clear social project", said Estelle Brachlianoff during her speech, before continuing "there is no such thing as ecological transformation, there is only evidence of ecological transformation", while reminding us that the challenge is to demonstrate that ecological transformation is not simply an increase in constraints, that it is desirable for all, and that it is possible to co-construct it together as a society, by bringing together all stakeholders.

"There is no ecological transformation, only evidence of ecological transformation"

Adapted solutions to meet the political will

Veolia's job is to transform this will and these resources into concrete solutions. The Group works with cities to make them greener, and helps industries get out of coal with solutions that already exist. Estelle Brachlianoff explains that "what Veolia brings to the table is its roots and innovation. Our strength is that we can apply our know-how and technologies anywhere in the world. But Veolia doesn't stop there."

We must also invest in innovation to find new solutions: "We have the skills and solutions to implement this project for society, we must be the guarantors of the realization of the chosen trajectory." Estelle Brachlianoff also pointed out that we already have 50% of the existing solutions to meet the challenges we face, and called for action: "the other 50%, we need to invent!"
