The intergovernmental negotiations on the preparation of the Global Plastic Pollution Treaty are generating a lot of interest and, as the 2nd round of negotiations in Paris from May 29 to June 2 has once again demonstrated, this is an opportunity for those who play a role in the plastic industry to share their positions.
It is in this context and on the occasion of World Plastic Bag Free Day that Veolia is organizing the webinar “Circular By Purpose: From Plastic Pollution To Action” on July 3rd, 2023.
For Veolia, it is about sharing with its stakeholders the point of view and expertise of a player committed to the fight against plastic pollution, by proposing solutions, deployed locally, to decarbonize, depollute, save and regenerate the resources.
First of all by explaining its solutions and putting these into the spotlight : from collection, through sorting and the various recycling channels (mechanical, chemical), and without ruling out incineration or even controlled landfilling (Manage Landfill ) within emerging economies, through Eco-design, which avoids the production of unnecessary plastic, to the new PlastiLoop offer, which allows industrial players to source recycled resins.
Secondly by advocating for an extension of regulations on recycling and the incorporation of recycled plastics in other industrial sectors than packaging which are not yet subject to these binding measures in this area, such as the automobile and the textile industry. What is at stake is the ability to support the entire plastic supply chain through an adapted regulatory framework and additional incentives, such as, say, the introduction of a plastic “bonus” for manufacturers.
To address the questions surrounding the challenges of plastic recycling, there is nothing better than to collect and share the point of view of our customers and our partners. We have therefore invited Mr. Takashi Ogura, Mitsui (Raw Materials Trading, Japan); Mr. Jean-Emile Potaufeux, Recyclass (Federation of Plastics Stakeholders, EU); Mr. Rémi Daudin, Forvia (Leader in the automotive industry, France), to speak alongside us for this first webinar, because it is with them and for them that we work on a daily basis.
In addition to feedback from our experts:
Sven Saura and Benoît Perreau (Solid Waste, Recycling & Recovery - BS&P); Timothée Duret (Veolia UK); Anthony Leroy (Veolia Japon); Filipe Vieira de Castro (CIRCPACK by Veolia) and Laurence Huerre (Veolia France).
