Attractiveness, ecology, property value: The challenges facing shopping malls
Shopping malls are experiencing strong growth worldwide. Their aim? To provide their customers with an increasingly attractive, comfortable and safe environment, while reducing their environmental footprint.
Resource management, and its impact on the level of service provided, is a key issue, whether it be for water (fountains, ponds, aquariums, etc.), energy (heating and air conditioning systems, air treatment, power supply, etc.) or waste and cleaning (waste management, reverse logistics, improved the recycling rate, cleaning, etc.).
At the Les Terrasses du Port shopping mall in Marseille, France, we recycle 74% of the waste produced using a thorough on-site sorting and recycling system (plastic, organic waste, paper, etc.).
Designed for shopping and leisure, everything must contribute to improving the experience of customers, who are looking for pleasant, bright and comfortable spaces, in all seasons and at all latitudes. These improvements must, however, be done with the environment and operational efficiency in mind. Effective energy management of these buildings, if necessary with ISO 50001 certification, will increase their property value.
We optimize the energy services for more than 1,100 shopping malls and mega stores.
Our solutions for the sustainable development of shopping malls
We ensure the availability and quality of energy. In the Czech Republic, we designed, built and operate an 8.6-megawatt heating and 2-megawatt cooling network for Centrum Babylon Liberec. Subsequently, the mall and its retailers saw a reduction in their energy bills.
We optimize operations through interactive and detailed reporting. In the United Arab Emirates, we provide reports on water and energy savings for each store in the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.
We are using cogeneration systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In Chongqing, China, a trigeneration plant supplies energy to the 120,000 m2 of retail space in the Jiaheyumao mall.
We provide technical expertise and ensure regulatory compliance, with solutions for indoor air quality. In Houston, in the United States, we have improved the service provision for the 240,000 m2 of retail space at the Galleria Mall.
