Contaminated Soils

Contaminated soil is soil polluted with organic and inorganic contaminants, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), heavy metals, PAHs, TPH, acid sulphate or pesticides.

Contaminated soil needs to be remediated to remove contaminants. This involves the soil being excavated and treated on site or transported and treated at a licensed facility. Thermal treatment can be used to destroy or remove organic contaminants within soil reducing waste to landfill.

Does Veolia offer soil remediation services?

Veolia delivers an end to end solution for contaminated soil, including identification, excavation, transportation, treatment and disposal.

Veolia specialise in the remediation of persistent contaminants and has a proven ability to treat a wide range of contaminants. Utilising a range of innovative and unique remediation treatment methods, including chemical fixation, enhanced oxidation, solvent extraction, bioremediation, encapsulation or thermal desorption.

We offer solutions for on-site remedial treatment and off-site removal to dedicated remedial treatment facilities.

Thermal desorption is an environmental remediation technology that utilises heat to increase the volatility of contaminants such that they can be separated from the soil. The volatilised contaminants are then either collected or thermally destroyed. Our Thermal Desorption Plant, ensures protection of human health and the environment by removing concentrations of toxins in soil, including hydrocarbons, Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH’s), organic contaminants and mercury.

For those emergency situations when unforeseen events occur, Veolia can manage the emergency cleanup and also handle the post-spill investigation and remediation requirements. Contaminated material can be removed off-site in a safe and timely manner, minimising the risks of environmental impacts.
