Pharmaceutical Waste

Pharmaceutical waste is drugs, remedies or medicine that have expired or are no longer required to treat a patient.

This also includes the destruction of recalled, overrun and expired pharmaceuticals and the destruction of raw materials generated during pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Pharmaceutical waste poses a risk to people and the environment, therefore cannot be disposed of as general waste. It has special handling, packaging and disposal requirements.

Does Veolia collect pharmaceutical waste?

Veolia’s highly trained and experienced team can provide an end-to-end solution to safely collect, transport and destroy pharmaceutical waste at our thermal destruction facility in compliance with regulation.

We provide a range of compliant pharmaceutical waste containers and can tailor a collection schedule to suit your site’s needs. Your waste will be collected by our dedicated hazardous waste fleet and transported to a specialised waste facility, where we destroy the waste according to legislative requirements.

The waste stream is taken to our thermal destruction facility and processed through an automatically controlled waste feed that ensures efficient combustion and complete destruction.  The waste is exposed to a chamber temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius, and the emissions are controlled to surpass European Standards, which exceed current Australian standards. Our traceable service means we can provide a certificate of destruction or a witnessed destruction service.
