Veolia Australia employees awarded for their commitment to safety at ERA Ranger Uranium Mine

In February 2018, Veolia won four “Stop and Seek Help Awards” as part of ERA’s site-wide Critical Risk Management program.

Veolia was recently awarded a contract with Energy Resources Australia Ltd (ERA) for the operation and maintenance of the HPD® brine concentrator plant at the Ranger Mine site, located adjacent to the world heritage listed Kakadu National Park, in the Northern Territory, Australia.

The “Stop and Seek Help Program” was launched in April 2017 with the focus on recognising and rewarding individuals who STOP AND SEEK HELP when a job is deemed unsafe.

This program enables individuals to have the courage to speak out and stop a job if it feels unsafe, and is one of the best tools we have for reducing injuries and fatalities on site.

The program provides many benefits such as:

  • Immediate safety issues can be addressed;
  • The next shift and other teams can learn from individual experiences;
  • Flaws in procedures and work practices can be identified;
  • Training programs can be adjusted to include identified risks; and
  • Veolia can use the knowledge towards planning of works to prevent similar risks.

Each month management reviews the STOP AND SEEK HELP actions from the record books and winners are rewarded with prizes such as gift vouchers.

This recognition is a testament to the positive embedding of the Critical Risk Management program and the continual commitment to safety in the workplace demonstrated by Veolia.
