Partnership Announcement: Veolia & North Queensland Cowboys

Veolia Australia and New Zealand, has formed a new partnership with the Cowboys Community Foundation to support Indigenous high school students through an education and transition program - Learn, Earn, Legend!

Delivered by the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, Learn, Earn, Legend! provides Indigenous students with a long-term mentoring relationship, based on common interests, respect and genuine friendships to help close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous employment outcomes.

Currently, only 34.6% of Indigenous Australians have completed their year 12 certificate but through programs like Learn, Earn, Legend!, students are breaking down the barriers and achieving positive results.

Danny Conlon, Veolia’s Executive General Manager - Eastern Region, stated, “Everyone in Australia deserves access to education and resources, but the reality is, some Indigenous students don’t have the same opportunities as non-Indigenous students.

“The program will not only see students mentored and supported throughout the year, but it will help with instilling self-confidence, encouraging education beyond high school and a brighter future.”

Additionally, the partnership supports NRL Cowboys House, a unique accommodation solution, enabling students from remote communities across North Queensland to access a secondary education that is not readily available in their local community.

“We’ve always been committed to supporting the communities in which we operate,” continued Mr. Conlon.

“The partnership will allow our employees to engage with students and participate in community events, plus demonstrate to the students the importance of self-value through hard work.”

Veolia is a long-time employer in the North Queensland region and is committed to investing in local community development programs.
