Veolia Environnement starts french operational phase of research program for CO2 capture, transportation and storage

Veolia Environnement has selected its site in Claye Souilly, near Paris, to study the installation of an industrial-scale pilot unit for the capture and geological storage of carbon dioxide. With an annual treatment capacity of 200,000 metric tons per year of CO2, the site will be the biggest of its kind in France to date. CO2 capture and geological storage are among the solutions able to contribute to global targets for greenhouse gas reduction.

2 months from the Transat start, Roland Jourdain has taken the regretful decision not to take part in the English transatlantic race, which starts on May 11th 2008.Since dismasting in the Barcelona World Race and despite huge efforts from his technical team, the delays in shipping the boat back and the build of the new mast have forced the team to fall behind schedule.

Veolia Cargo signed an agreement for the acquisition of Rail4Chem

Veolia Cargo signed an agreement for the acquisition of Rail4Chem, a company that specializes in international rail freight transportation. Owned by four private shareholders, Rail4Chem recorded revenue of over €80 million in 2007. The acquisition will come into effect in 2008 subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities.

Dalkia strengthens positions in Poland with successful completion of the Praterm offer

Following completion of its public offer launched last 17th December, Dalkia has become, with 97.9 % of the shares, the majority shareholder of Praterm, a Polish district heating company. The transaction has strengthened Dalkia's positions in Poland, where it already owns and operates two of the country's largest heating networks, in Poznan and Lodz.

Launch of the Veolia Observatory of Urban Lifestyles

Veolia Environnement has now set up the Veolia Observatory of Urban Lifestyles to augment its knowledge of the city. The Observatory is publishing the findings of its first study, which was carried out by Ipsos, the French market research institute. The study examines the relationship between city dwellers and the place where they live. A total of 8,500 people were surveyed in 14 cities: Alexandria, Beijing, Berlin, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Lyons, Mexico City, New York, Paris, Prague, Shanghai, Sydney and Tokyo.

Veolia Water wins contract to upgrade and extend the Czajka wastewater treatment plant in Warsaw, Poland

Veolia Water, via its subsidiary Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, has won a contract in a consortium including Warbud, the Polish civil engineering company, and WTE, the German water company, to upgrade and extend the Czajka wastewater treatment plant in Warsaw, Poland.

Veolia Water wins contract to upgrade wastewater treatment plant in Nantes (France) to an exemplary environmental level

Nantes Metropole, the Nantes urban authority in France, has awarded Veolia Water - via OTV France Ouest, a subsidiary of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies - a contract to reconstruct and extend a wastewater treatment plant in the South of the city, in an area known as the Petite Californie.
